When Taylor Swift glided to the stage to
accept her first Grammy of the night—Best Country Solo Performance for her song
"Mean"—she delivered one of the better lines of the evening.
"There's nothing like writing a song
about someone who's really mean to you and makes you life miserable," she said,
"and then winning a Grammy for it."
The song in question quickly won another
Grammy, this time for Best Country Song. Swift returned to the stage and
proceeded to thank everyone she could think of, including the people clapping in
the audience.
Winning the award will do a lot more for
than settling a score—Taylor Swift is a prime example of how Grammy wins can
help boost earnings.
To be sure, there are other factors at
play when earnings rise so sharply. For an artist like Taylor Swift, radio play
and other sorts of exposure certainly factor into the increase. And it’s hard to
gain more exposure than she already has. But there's no doubt that her Grammy
wins have played a role in fueling that success.
Perhaps Swift put it best herself moments
after her second Grammy win of the year, saying simply: "This is
unbelievable."
